This is the story of a woman who is a mother to a child named Aadil. After the death of her husband, who was a middle-class man, she faced numerous challenges due to a lack of resources. She struggled to take care of Aadil, who suffered from asthma. Unable to pay the rent, the landlord reported her to the authorities, and she was arrested and sent to jail.
In jail, Aadil was deprived of an inhaler, and the police constable refused to provide one. At a critical moment, when Aadil’s life was at risk, the Muhtasib-e-Aala visited the jail. Witnessing Aadil’s dire condition, he took swift action and saved the boy’s life.
This novel sheds light on the harsh realities faced by people with limited resources and highlights how those who strive to do the right thing often face significant repercussions. The Muhtasib-e-Aala, an honest and upright individual, faced accusations of misusing government resources, such as a helicopter, despite taking bold steps against corruption. Ironically, while the Muhtasib-e-Aala was scrutinized for his actions, the prime minister, holding a lower rank than him, traveled with a convoy of 25 cars, showcasing the stark hypocrisy in governance.
