Ahmaq Tamashai is a short and emotional story about a 50-year-old writer who lives alone in his family home after his parents’ death. His life is quiet and uneventful, with his only family being a sister who lives in America and visits him every 4-5 years. He spends his days writing columns and has never married, leading a lonely and routine life.
One day, he notices a brother and sister coming out of a nearby house. They often sit outside to talk about their lives. Their conversations catch his attention, and he becomes curious about their struggles, especially the girl’s, as he senses she is unhappy and trapped in a difficult situation.
Over time, he starts to feel a connection with the girl, imagining her pain and dreaming of helping her escape from her controlling mother. When he hears that she plans to leave, he decides to step in and protect her.
However, in a surprising twist, he discovers that the shadow he had been watching was not a young woman in distress but a little girl, around six or seven years old, playing with puppets and practicing a story.
The novel is a simple yet touching tale about loneliness, imagination, and the misunderstandings that can arise from our own longing for connection. It shows how the writer’s feelings of isolation led him to create a story that wasn’t real but reflected his desire to care for someone and feel needed.
