Muthi Bhar Mitti is a novel based on the events experienced by a Muslim family living in a small village in Patiala during the time of the partition of the Indian subcontinent, when India and Pakistan were formed under the leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Gandhi. The family consists of a father, mother, three brothers, and three sisters. The eldest son, Muzaffar, attends college in Jalandhar and begins following Jinnah’s ideology, much to his father’s disapproval.
After the partition is finalized, Muzaffar, his mother, and his sisters are killed in an attack by Hindus and Sikhs. In the aftermath of this tragedy, the father decides to migrate to Pakistan due to the immense hardship and emotional devastation of losing his loved ones.
As time passes, due to economic difficulties and security instability in Pakistan, people begin to express dissatisfaction, questioning whether the country was truly meant for them. The story highlights the family’s emotional struggles, loss, and the contrast between those who sacrificed everything for the cause of Pakistan and the later disillusionment of others. This story was first published by Umera Ahmed in Shuaa digest and later on as a part of the book Maine Khwabon Ka Shajar Dekha Hai.
