Mere Khawab Mere Jugnu is Nimra Ahmed’s first novel, written when she was only 16. The story revolves around two sisters, Mahnoor and Samal, daughters of Sheikh Jahangir, a rich businessman in Pakistan.
Khuram Zaid, a middle-class boy, dreams of becoming a successful hotel owner and building the biggest chain of hotels in the world. Mahnoor, who is bold, stylish, and manipulative, notices Khuram and starts liking him. But Khuram doesn’t feel the same way. When she finds out he works at her father’s hotel, she gets him fired. On the other hand, Samal is simple, quiet, and has some disabilities. She prefers to stay alone.
Khuram meets Samal in a park where she goes every evening, and he falls in love with her. When Khuram proposes to her, Samal tells Mahnoor about it. Mahnoor sarcastically advises her to tell Khuram that she would only marry him if he becomes successful without using her father’s money. Khuram takes this seriously, moves to England, and works hard to prove himself. After years of struggle, he becomes very successful.
When Khuram returns, ready to find Samal, Mahnoor lies to him, saying that Samal died after he left. In reality, Samal is alive. Later, Samal travels to England for a business deal and meets Amad, a friend of Khuram. Amad tells her about Khuram’s love for her and how he hasn’t been able to move on.
Eventually, Samal and Khuram meet again. She discovers that he believed she was dead and had worked hard all these years just for her.
