Haalim is one of the best works by Nimra Ahmed. This novel revolves around the life stories of three people. The main character, Talia Bint Murad, works as a scam investigator and is known as Haalim in Malaysia. However, she was originally a con artist who created problems herself and then solved them as Haalim. Talia doesn’t know about her childhood or who her parents were, as she was raised in an orphanage. There, she met Zulkafi, a thief who taught her about theft and cons.
Adam Bin Muhammad, another character, is an average boy from a middle-class family. He is hired as a Body Man for Fateh Ramzal, a politician and the chairman of the second-largest political party in Malaysia. Fateh aspires to become the prime minister to help his country thrive. He is ruthless yet kind and honest, very different from corrupt politicians, and genuinely wants to help his people.
Talia is on a quest to find a key, believing it to be the key to a treasure. However, the treasure is incomplete without a coin, which is in the possession of Fateh Ramzal. Fateh eventually gives the coin to Adam Bin Muhammad. This is where the lives of Talia, Adam, and Fateh intertwine.
The novel is packed with thrill, adventure, politics, and an exploration of how power can corrupt individuals. It also delves into how people, for their selfish motives, can harm others without considering the consequences of their actions. The story includes a fictional element of time travel. The key that Talia seeks turns out to be a key to time travel, revealing that in ancient times, she was a princess and the daughter of a prime minister.
This story teaches profound lessons about betrayal by those closest to you for their own benefit and the sacrifices strangers make for someone who follows the righteous path. Despite its length, the novel is deeply engaging and thought-provoking.
