Badalti Qismat novel is the story of Hania Beena, a girl from a family where girls are married off at a young age, and education is not given much importance. Hania’s father, at her request, allowed her to pursue a Master’s degree, but with the condition that she would marry immediately afterward. However, Hania aspired to become a CSS officer and convinced her father to give her one more year to prepare. He reluctantly agreed, with the condition that after clearing CSS, he would arrange her marriage to a person of his choosing.
During her studies, Hania lived with her Nano (maternal grandmother), where Shazal, the son of her maternal aunt, was also staying for his education. They became close friends and eventually fell in love. Both wanted to marry, but there were family conflicts that complicated their relationship. When Hania’s father found out about their relationship, he strongly disapproved and immediately arranged Hania’s marriage to her cousin Muaz.
Hania’s father, Shinwari, sent his brother to bring her back home, and upon her arrival, he arranged her Nikah with Muaz without delay. Desperate, Hania’s mother called Shazal and asked him to come and take Hania with him if he truly loved her. Shazal, however, did not come, and Hania felt betrayed, believing he had only been passing time with her.
After marriage, Hania faced constant taunts from Muaz and harsh treatment from her mother-in-law, who put her in charge of the kitchen just two days after the wedding. Muaz was abusive, and when Hania gave birth to two daughters, he divorced her, blaming her for not having a son. He planned to remarry, convinced that the issue was Hania’s inability to bear a male child.
Tragedy struck when Hania’s parents died in an accident. She sought refuge at her maternal uncle’s house but was treated like a servant and blamed for her failed marriage. When Hania’s sister, Sajal, came to visit from another city and saw the miserable state of Hania and her daughters, she urged Hania to return to their Nano’s house. Though reluctant due to Shazal’s presence there, Hania had no choice and eventually moved back.
At her grandmother’s house, Hania resumed her CSS preparation and later achieved her goal of becoming an Assistant Commissioner (AC). When Shazal learned of her return, he came to explain the truth about what happened on the night of her Nikah. Initially, Hania refused to listen to him, but later, a cousin revealed that Shazal had indeed tried to come for her. However, her father had threatened to divorce Hania’s mother if Shazal took Hania away. Furthermore, Hania’s mother had also called Shazal that night, begging him to leave to protect the family’s dignity.
What happens next in Hania’s journey? Will her relationship with Shazal be restored? Will their families eventually approve of their union? To find out, read the complete novel.
